Antique Lavar Kerman Carpet Southeast Persian, circa 1900
Lavar Keman A complex allover Herati pattern in shades apricot scintillates in high contrast against the light blue ground of this antique Kerman. The pattern is so closely worked that the ground functions as little more than an accenting outline for the main design. The vinescroll border on a light salmon ground maintains much of the scale and design texture of the field endowing the carpet with a pleasing decorative unity.
Ravar/Lavar- A village north of Kerman known for very finely knotted Kerman rugs.
Kerman-A major center for the production of high-quality Persian carpets since the seventeenth century. When Persian rug production moved into high gear in the later nineteenth century, Kerman once again emerged as a producer of the finest carpets in the best Persian tradition. Kerman carpets are known for the fineness of their weave and for their elegantly drawn designs of classical derivation, both in allover and central medallion formats.
